What can affect an application for permanent uppehållstillstånd/permanent residence?
Hi,
I am applying for permanent uppehållstillstånd and fulfill all conditions. However i got a fine of 1700SEK for high speed taken by a camera. It states as follows:
Strafforeläggande Godkant 2020-01-21, AM-325-20-2, Ostersund ak- Trafik (703T) Brott mot trafikförordningen 2019-08-31 10 kap 12 st 15p och 14 kap 3 2p trafikfbrordningen (1998 1276) 1 sin lydelse fore i jamuani 2020 samt lokala trafikföreskrifter.
May this affect the decision for permanent residence? Can I get a rejection ?
Many thanks in advance.

Hi, thank you for turning to Lawline with your question!
Answer
When Migrationsverket (the Swedish immigration agency) is processing an application for permanent uppehållstillstånd there are some things that they take into consideration. One of the things that can affect the decision to give a permanent uppehållstillstånd is if the applicant (you in this case) has previously committed any crimes, 5 kap. 17 § Utlänningslagen (Law on foreigners.) So in conclusion, because you have commited a crime before it can affect your application for permanent uppehållstillstånd. But the seriousness of the crime should also be taken into consideration so because your crime is not of a serious character it might not affect the decision as much.
